<div itemprop="description">With great sadness the family announces Mitch&rsquo;s unexpected but peaceful passing at home on Thursday, October 23, 2014. Predeceased by his beloved wife, June, his soulmate for 46 years, the family is comforted to know they are together again. He is profoundly missed by his son, James (Christine), his grandchildren Matthew, Kristen and Jessica and his daughter, Lynn (David Woodfine). He is predeceased by his parents, Antoni and Karolina Kostuch and by his brothers, Ted and Ray. Mitch is survived by his two sisters, Jean and Helen.<br /><br />Born in Toronto in 1931, Mitch attended Central Tech where his love of journalism was born working on the school newspaper. Following secondary school, Mitch attended Ryerson Institute of Technology where he studied journalism and graduated in 1953. For 17 years, he worked in many capacities with Southam Business Publications, one of the country&rsquo;s biggest publishers, before leaving to return to school. Mitch graduated from York University&rsquo;s MBA program in 1972.<br /><br />Mitch purchased Foodservice and Hospitality magazine from the Canadian Restaurant Association (CRA) in 1974. He was instrumental in supporting the hospitality sector through additional media publications, events, and food safety training ventures. Mitch regularly travelled to the Culinary Olympics to cheer Team Canada. He was involved with many organizations such as the Canadian Federation of Chefs and Cooks (CCF) and the World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) to name a few. He was a founding member of Cuisine Canada of Friends of We Care Charity and a proud member of the Order of the Golden Tocque.<br />His sense of adventure and passion for travel took him many places in the world, always making special friends and finding new opportunities. Mitch was a true entrepreneur and co-founded SB Capital in 1971 to provide funding for start-up businesses. He combined his love of travel and venture capital while acting as a consultant for the World Bank. In 2002, Mitch founded TrainCan Inc., to support the hospitality sector with education and training for food service employees. Above everything else, Mitch was a true &ldquo;gentle man&rdquo;, loved and respected by all who knew him.<br /><br />A 'celebration of life' visitation will be held on Monday, November 3rd, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at the Donalda Club, 12 Bushbury Drive, Don Mills, ON (416-447-5575). <br /><br />There will be a private celebration of his life for family and friends on Tuesday, November 4th at 3pm at the Donalda Club.<br /><br />In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Friends of We Care, Heart &amp; Stroke Foundation or the Kawartha Nordic Ski Club.<br /><br />Arrangements entrusted to The Simple Alternative Funeral Centre (416-441-1580).<br /><br /></div>
