In memory of

Mildred June "June" Walker

June 25, 1930 -  June 1, 2024

Mildred “June” Walker (nee Stewart), beloved daughter of Sadie and Reginald Stewart, passed away peacefully on June 1st, 2024 at Fairview Lodge, Whitby at the age of 93. She was born in Schumacher, Ontario on June 25th, 1930. June was predeceased by her brothers William (Marion) and Russel (June), and by her husband Murray Walker, from Bancroft, Ontario. She will be dearly missed by her sisters Mary Davis (Tait, deceased), Patricia Fawcett (Peter), Barbara Gibbens (Peter), her nieces, nephews, extended family and friends near and far.

“Crazy Aunt June” as she was lovingly referred to by her family was a character through and through. She was an artist, traveler, curler, tennis player, canoer, yodeller and storyteller extraordinaire. Never one to shy away from a party, she had her own clown suit in case impromptu entertainment was needed, and she played a mean kazoo. She was always decked out in brightly patterned clothes and she enjoyed a cold beer. Her passion for “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary” and “I Want a Beer Just Like the Beer that Pickled Dear Old Dad” are legendary amongst the family.

June had a lifelong love of the town of Schumacher, where she was born and raised. Schumacher was the inspiration for many of her paintings, and countless stories that she shared with her family and friends, whether they wanted to hear them or not.

June and Murray lived in Oshawa for many years, spending their winters in Hawaii and summers at their cottage near Buckhorn. She loved to paint and was active in the local art scene. She always swore that her paintings would be worth millions once she passed away. Time will tell if she was right about that.

June’s family wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff of Fairview Lodge for the care and kindness shown to June and her family during her stay there. Their humour, kindness and friendship during a difficult time will never be forgotten by June’s sisters Barb and Pat.

As per June’s own wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. Her family invites you to raise a glass in her honour instead – preferably a beer.

Arrangements entrusted to THORNTON CEMETERY & FUNERAL CENTRE, 1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa. Donations will be gratefully accepted for the charity of your choice. Expressions of condolence may be left at www.etouch.ca
