It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Mieczyslaw (Mike) Skierniewski. He died peacefully
at Malton Village on June 30, 2015. He was pre-deceased by his wife Rina on June 22, 2010. Mike, as he was known, will be missed by his daughters Lucy Richelmi (Andrea), Irma Gross (Otto), and Lily Stilo (Paul-deceased) along with their families and friends.
Mike was born in Opatov, Poland on January 17,1921. He left Poland as a teen due to the 2nd World War and, after much travel, joined the British Allied Forces as a 1st Lieutenant. He served in North Africa and the Middle East before fighting in the battle of Montecassino, Italy. After marrying in Italy, he and Rina moved to Argentina and eventually to Canada where they made it their final home. It was here they raised their 3 Daughters, 9 Grandchildren and 10 Great-Grandchildren.
His passion was raising animals and farming, first at the farm in Orangeville and later in Bolton.
Being a veteran he was a member of the Polish 2nd Corp Veterants Organization and enjoyed singing in their choir. On many occasions, he was the flag bearer at the Veteran's Day parades.
He will be remembered for his dedication to his family, friends and his love for his animals.
A very special thank you to the staff at Malton Village for their care and kindness.
We will celebrate his life on July 18th,2015.
