Melviner Monica Hinds

September 26, 1945 -  October 24, 2024

Melviner (Mel) Monica Hinds died on October 24, 2024 in the Ajax Pickering Hospital at the age of 79. She was surrounded by the love of her family during her brief stay in the hospital. Mel was predeceased by her husband, George and leaves to mourn her children, Joan, Paulette (Osbourne Burnett), Ainsworth (Sherryann), Brian, Christina and stepson, Michael. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, Jennice, Jasmine, Breanna, Olivia, Jayda, Shantelle, Braiden, Christian as well as Nicolette, Michael jr., Jaydien and Olivia (Livi). Mel was the eldest of 9 children born to parents, Melbourne and Sylvia Reid. Lovingly remembered by her brother, Lloyd and sisters, Janette and Veronica. She was predeceased by her sister, Beverley and brothers, Leebourne, Earl, Paulos and Phillip.

Mel worked at Sunnybrook Hospital for over 30 years but she considered motherhood her greatest vocation. She was the epitome of a good mother who thought that no sacrifice was too great to make for her children as long as it did not compromise her relationship with God.

She was a faithful member of the Mount Gilead Seventh-day Adventist Church in Scarborough, ON where she served in many departments over the years including, elder, deacon, sabbath school, clerk and seniors ministry. Mel loved to read and always subscribed to the Toronto Star, Readers’ Digest, and Adventist Review among other publications. She also loved to travel and especially enjoyed cruises.

A celebration of Mel’s life will be held at the Toronto Perth Seventh-day Adventist Church on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Visitation will be at 2:00pm followed by the service at 3:00pm.
