Thomas Melvin (Mel) Hazeltine passed away peacefully in his sleep at Regina Gardens on December 1, 2021, at the age of 90. Mel was predeceased by his loving wife Daisy.
Mel is survived by his adoring wife Millie, children Linda (Tony), Marilyn (Colin deceased), Garry (Jenn), Beryl (Bryan) and Kimberly (John). Proud Poppy to grandchildren Donald (Adrianne), Penny (Yannick), Michelle, Dayna (Bradley), Todd (Ozzy), Steven (Jennifer), Jaclyn (Daniel) and Carlene (Dan). And many great grandchildren. And Sister Eva (Graham).
He is survived by his stepfamily, Debbie (Brad), Bill (Karen), Bob and many grandchildren & great grandchildren. Predeceased by parents Thomas and Eliza; Brothers George and Roy; and Sisters Marion and Evelyn.
Mel was born in Brigus, Newfoundland on August 9, 1931 and married his wife Daisy in 1952. They moved around Scarborough, Toronto, and Stouffville before settling in Keswick, building their family. Together they had five children and 55 years in marriage.
Mel worked as an iron worker building Toronto’s first subway, countless schools and even Toronto’s iconic CN Tower. When Mel wasn’t working or with his family, he was at the stables looking after and training horses, another passion of his. Mel owned standard bred horses, to name a few (Cinnamon Bun, Miss Damipe, Whistlers Mountain, Evacuation and April Star)
The family wishes to sincerely thank the wonderful caregivers at Park Place Manor and Regina Gardens Long Term Care for all that they did for Mel.
Visitation will take place at the Pine Hills Cemetery, 625 Birchmount Road, Scarborough on Wednesday December 8, 2021 at 1:00pm followed by Funeral Service at 2:00pm with burial after. As long as you’re double vaccinated and have proof and ID you may attend. Pine Hills is also offering the funeral to be streamed live for those who can’t attend starting at 1:45pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations to either the Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
There will be a small reception held after by invitation only.

Very sorry to learn about this. Mel was a great friend to us. He had a great sense of humour and was a warm and caring person. We were honoured to be at Mel and Millie's wedding. Rest assured of God's grace.
