In memory of

Melissa Marla Gopaul

May 12, 1979 -  June 23, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved sister, daughter, and aunt, Melissa, who left us far too soon at the age of 46 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Melissa is lovingly remembered by her devoted mother, Sardha; her sisters, Jennifer (Darren) and Michelle (Adil); her cherished nieces, Melina, Ariana, Mia, and Sienna; her many aunts, uncles and cousins; and a close circle of friends who stood by her with unwavering love and support.

Born in Thunder Bay, Ontario, Melissa spent most of her life in Mississauga, where she grew up to be a bright and curious student, excelling in science and always eager to learn. Her intelligence was matched by a lively social spirit—she enjoyed playing baseball, capture the flag, and board games with her friends. A true lover of science fiction and fantasy, Melissa found joy in books, movies and shows that sparked her imagination.

She also had a passion for travel, exploring the world and collecting memories in places like South Africa, Iceland, France, the United States, and Mexico, among others.

Melissa will always be remembered for her cheerful smile, warm heart, gentle nature, and remarkable strength. She faced her illness with grace and resilience, never allowing it to dim her love for life or for those around her. She found deep joy in the simple things—sharing laughter with family and friends, playing games, and showering affection on her beloved cats and bunnies.

A funeral service to celebrate Melissa’s life will be held on July 5th with visitaion from 9:30-10:30am and Service from 10:30-11:30am at Meadowvale Funeral Centre, followed by a reception for close family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to one of Melissa’s favourite charities: Rabbit Rescue, the Food Bank of Mississauga, or the Canadian Cancer Society—honouring her deep compassion for animals and her care for others.

Melissa's presence will be deeply missed, but her love and light will live on in all who knew her.

In Loving Memory of Melissa

Please accept my deepest condolences. I’m profoundly grateful for the time we shared—every laugh, every moment. I’ll always cherish our time together, especially when we’d find ourselves drawn to those soft, curious bunnies we both adored. Your gentle spirit shone brightest in those moments.

You are the most beautiful soul I have ever met. My bunnies love you even more than they love me. I am not ready to speak about you in the past tense. Your spirit remains with me, filling a significant part of my heart.

Although no words can truly ease this loss, please know that you are deeply missed. May the memory of your warmth, love, and the joy you found in rabbits continue to inspire and comfort us all. Rest peacefully, my dear friend.

With all my love and gratitude,
Ju Hui

Melissa was one of the most joyful individuals I've ever known. She always had a smile, and left a positive presence everywhere she went. She will be deeply missed. Looking forward to the day when we will see you again with our Lord Jesus, Melissa! There's no better place to be than to be with Him.
