In memory of

Melanie Elizabeth Hoo-Fatt

March 26, 1970 -  September 28, 2025

Melanie Elizabeth Hoo-Fatt, age 55, passed away peacefully on September 28th, 2025 surrounded by loved ones.

Born on March 26, 1970 in Jamaica, Melanie lived life with rhythm and grace. She was best known for her infectious smile and laugh and an unwavering passion for dance and curling.

Whether she was gliding across the floor to the beat of salsa, swaying with elegance in a hula performance, or sweeping the ice in a curling match, Melanie brought joy, laughter, and light-hearted competitiveness to everything she did. Her love for movement was more than a hobby—it was an expression of the joy she found in everyday life and the connections she built along the way.

Melanie was also a beloved, sister, aunt, friend, who made time for her family and friends. She inspired those around her to live fully, love openly, and always say yes to a new adventure. Melanie will be deeply missed but her spirit and joy will live on in loved ones she leaves behind.

She is survived by her mother (Sylvia Hoo-Fatt), brother Adrian Hoo-Fatt (and Diane, Gabriella, Gavin), sister Cheryl Tsang (and Samuel, Aidan, Wyatt), sister Jamie Chou (and Alex, Dylan, Maddox) preceded in death by her father Hector Hoo-Fatt.

A funeral will be held on October 10th, 2025 at 9am to 11am at Elgin Mills Funeral Centre.

The family also invite you to a lunch after the funeral service at 12pm at Dragan Legend Buffet Restaurant at 25 Lanark Rd, Markham

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation in her name (https://thepmcf.ca/ways-to-give/memory/)

For those who are unable to attend the funeral service it will be livestreamed for public viewing on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10 a.m... (a link will be available on this memorial page at 9 a.m.). Melanie was such a kind and wonderful person. She was an excellent coach to our new curlers, and I always enjoyed coaching with her.

My sincere condolences to her family at this time. I will miss Melanie’s energy and enthusiasm on and off the ice, such as when she was my doubles partner for the Royal Canadian Mixed Doubles bonspiel and we almost won it.
