Meland Hazel Chow
June 30, 1944 - January 21, 2026
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Meland Hazel Chow, who left us peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Guyana, Hazel came to Toronto in 1969 with Peter and a shared dream. Together, they worked tirelessly opening their first wonton noodle shop in Toronto’s Chinatown and many other ventures to build their future and provide for their family. Even after moving on from the restaurant business Hazel never left food behind.
She found happiness in baking and cooking for family and friends, and no one will forget her sponge cake - a simple but cherished treat.
She was a proud and devoted mother to Deborah (Justin), Sandra, Donald, and Johnny, and a deeply loved grandmother to Nicholas, Naomi, and Noel, who brought her endless joy.
Her greatest gift to our family was her unwavering strength, commendable perseverance, and quiet resilience. She gave selflessly of herself, always showing up for those she loved. The love she shared and the lessons she taught will live on in our hearts and cherished memories.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Meland Hazel Chow may be made to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. We are profoundly grateful to all the staff for their care and compassion.
