In memory of

Murray McLaren

April 25, 1954 -  September 9, 2022

Murray Gibson McLaren
April 25, 1954 – September 9, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family of Murray McLaren announce his sudden passing at his home in Holland Landing, Ontario on Friday September 9, 2022 at the age of 68 years.

A loving husband, father, brother, grandad, and uncle. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 33 years Glenis McLaren (nee. Chambers), sons Colin and Iain (Montanna), daughter Kaeli (Spencer), and grandson Ryder. He is survived by his brother Bruce (Dawn Marie) and several nieces and nephews.

Murray was predeceased by his parents Don and Jean (Vigus) McLaren, and his “Mum” Elizabeth (Hanson) McLaren.

From his early years Murray was a passionate competitor on the ball diamond and football field but his genuine lifelong loves were hockey and golf. Starting as a player through the years, then becoming a coach, Murray shared both his love and knowledge of hockey amongst the entire community of East Gwillimbury. His contributions and legacy are recognized, in part, from the “Think Rink” committee. Murray was instrumental in the planning and fundraising for EG receiving a second ice pad for the present and future youth and adult players.

Murray embodied the definition of “Family Man” which extended to all those who knew him. His honest, caring and funny nature will forever live on in all of our memories.

Murray cared about many charities, and we are sure he would care about yours as well. So, as an expression of sympathy in lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful for any in memory donations made to the charity of your choice.

I knew him for over 23 years, and he was the first in the neighborhood to welcome my family and me. It is just too unbelievable that he is gone. I am so sorry for Glennis, Colin, Ian, Kailey - and Ryder, who will never know maternal grandpa.
