Max passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, at the age of 89. He is now reunited with his beloved wife of 49 years, Patricia Pereira, who predeceased him in 2004.
He will be lovingly remembered by his 8 children: Dexter (Desiree), Ingrid (Terry), Aubrey (Diana), Debra, Christine (Gary), Catherine (Mike), Damian (Kim), and Amanda (Ali). Max was a proud grandfather to 14 grandchildren and a cherished great-grandfather to 11 great-grandchildren.
Born into a large family of 11 children, Max will also be dearly missed by his surviving siblings and long time friend Angel Schneeberger.
Max had a long and dedicated career as a motor vehicle mechanic, beginning in his home country of Guyana and later continuing in Canada, where he retired from the Toronto Transit Commission in 2002.
He had a wonderful sense of adventure, a love for travel, and a unique humour that brought joy to those around him. His memorable sayings and warm spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held on Sunday April 26, 2026 from 1pm-5pm at Simple Alternative Funeral Centre 1057 Brock Rd, Pickering ON L1W 3T7.
A funeral service will take place on Monday April 27, 2026 at 10:30 am at St. Isaac Jogues Catholic Church, 1148 Finch Ave., Pickering, ON L1V 1J6. Reception to follow immediately afterwards.
In Max’s memory flowers may be sent to the funeral home, or if desired donations may be made to Diabetes Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society, or Guyana Christian Charities.
