Mavra Papadatos passed away peacefully surrounded by her children on September 15, 2017 at Scarborough Grace Hospital. Mavra was preceded by her late husband Theodoros in 1998.
Mavra was born in Zakynthos, Greece in November 18, 1929. She married Theodoros and they had four children. The family moved to Toronto, Ontario in 1973 to create a better future for their family.
Mavra was a dedicated wife and a devoted mother to her four children Mike and his wife Peggy Papadatos (with whom she resided), Meropi Kalamvrezas, Marika and her husband Christos Michalopoulos and Spiros Papadatos and his wife Angie.
Mavra was a hard worker and worked in the laundry hospitality industry until she retired by 40 to raise her grand-children. She had 8 grand-children that she loved deeply; Kostas, Ted, Mata (resides in Greece), Mavra, John (married to Marianne), Tina, Theodore (married to Chrissa) and Helen.
Mavra loved hosting family and friends, and loved celebrating the holidays. She spent hours cooking and preparing for her company. She was very proud of her family and she was most blessed to become a "Great-Yiayia" to her 10 great-grandchildren; Ethan, Karis Mya, Christopher, Lucas, Christian, Nicholas -Spiros, Angelia-Eleni and Madeline-Alexia.
Mavra was known for her warm smile, kind heart, good sense of humour and her selflessness. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
Family and friends will gather at the Elgin Mills Cemetery in Richmond Hill, Ontario on Sunday September 17, 2017 for Visitation from 4:30 - 8:30 p.m. Funeral service will be on Monday September 18, 2017 at 10 a.m. at Saint Panteleimon Greek Orthodox Church of Markham, followed by the burial at Elgin Mills Cemetery and Interment at the Church.
