In memory of

Matthew Semple Black

July 22, 1953 -  January 12, 2019

BLACK, Matthew Semple “Matt”

After a brief illness endured with courage and dignity, Matt passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on January 12, 2019 in his 66th year. Beloved husband and best friend of Sue for over 36 years. Devoted father of Matthew (Meghan) and Kathryn (Scott) and cherished papa of Rebekah. Loving son of the late Matt and Letty Black. Matt was dearly loved by his sister Sandra Mimnaugh (Willie), mother-in-law Jean Little (late Douglas), brother-in-law Jeffrey Little (Pauline) and sister-in-law Diane Karsa. He will be missed by his many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends in Canada, the United States, Scotland and the Isle of Man. In keeping with Matt’s wishes a private cremation has taken place. A celebration of Matt’s life will be held at Riley’s Pub (104 King St E, Oshawa, ON L1H 1B6, 905 404-2464) on Sunday, January 20, 2019 from 2-4pm. In memory of Matt, donations to R.S. McLaughlin Durham Regional Cancer Centre or Hearth Place would be appreciated by the family. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the caring and compassionate doctors and nurses, especially Dr. Kevin Graham and Elisha for professionalism shown to Matt and his family. Arrangements entrusted to THORNTON FUNERAL CENTRE (1200 Thornton Road North, Oshawa, 905-579-6787).
