Matthew May Fung Lok passed away peacefully on June 13, 2025, in Richmond Hill, Ontario, at the age of 77. Born in China on August 1, 1947, Matthew lived a life defined by quiet strength, deep wisdom, and unwavering devotion to those he loved.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Doris Sai Ping Chan-Lok; his two daughters, Corie Lok and Areta Lok; and his cherished grandchildren, Liam, Nora, and Miriam, who brought him immense joy and pride.
Matthew built a distinguished career as an electrical engineer in the field of telecommunications and later served as an industry liaison for Nortel at the the University of Waterloo, where he helped connect innovation with real-world application. His work was marked not only by technical expertise but by a calm, thoughtful presence that colleagues and collaborators deeply valued.
To his family and friends, Matthew was known for his level-headedness, kindness, and a quiet goofiness that could brighten any moment. He loved technology and gadgets, watching sports (especially tennis and golf), doing puzzles, and watching his grandchildren play. He was steady, compassionate, and always present—whether helping with a project, sharing thoughtful advice, or simply sitting beside you in peaceful silence.
Though he is no longer with us, the memories, wisdom, and love he imparted will continue to live on in all who knew him. His legacy is not only in the work he did or the lives he touched, but in the enduring values he passed down to his family.
