In memory of

Jason Michael Amos Mateff

May 24, 1985 -  December 7, 2023

With heavy hearts, the family announces the sudden passing of Jason on December 7th at the age of 38.

Loving husband to Celia Medeiros. Beloved first born son of Rosanne and John. Cherished big brother to Ian and Christina. Dear son in law of Maria and Iberio; Adored big brother to Andre and Iberio Jr. Jason will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by many aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues and friends.

Jason had a great passion for cooking. As a culinary master, he would often follow his grandpa’s recipes and use his grandpa as inspiration for his own creations. He found no greater joy than being surrounded by those he loved while providing them with an abundance of delicious food. Many were even fortunate enough to enjoy his amazing breakfasts and Portuguese dishes.

“Big Jay” loved to hike trails in many parks and conservation areas, especially around the GTA and often could be found exploring in different areas of the City.

Jason had a heart of gold and made lasting impressions on everyone he met. Always offering support and encouragement to those around him, often thinking of other people’s well-being. Jason pushed himself passed his comfort zone and always cheered others on as they did the same.

Jason also enjoyed listening to good music. Often attending concerts and supporting up and coming bands.

He really enjoyed a good cup of coffee. He loved watching UFC and supporting his beloved Toronto Raptors with his friends and family. Also enjoyed deep sea fishing and snorkeling, adventured through Iceland and even tried sky diving.

Jason will always be cherished and remembered in our hearts.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jason to Kids Help Phone, Conservation of Halton or a Charity that helps another person in need would be appreciated by the Family.

Please feel free to share your memories of Jason by signing the guestbook and uploading any photos/videos you may have.

Jay was an amazing individual that I was blessed to have as a friend. His dad introduced us shortly after starting work at Humber College and we’ve been friends ever since. He’s an absolute amazing person who will be dearly missed. Love you buddy! Until we see each other again. Blessings brother!

O Captain, my Captain.
Thank you for always being such a bright light in the dodgeball community. You were incredibly kind and so encouraging on and off the court. It was a privilege play on your team and an honour to have known you. I have seen such an outpouring of love for you Jay, you will be greatly missed.
