In memory of

Mary MacFadyen

November 6, 1931 -  August 4, 2022

Our beloved Mary Theresa MacFadyen died on August 4th, 2022, with her son Sandy and daughter Christie by her side.

She was cared for with loving attention by the wonderful staff at Kensington Gardens for the last five years, and we wish to thank them from deep in our hearts for their incredible devotion during such a difficult time.

Born in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, daughter of Ida Cameron and Alan MacCormack, Mary was the second youngest of five children: her younger sister Anna and elder siblings Jean, Francis and Jack.

Mary was predeceased by all four of her siblings and cherished by her many nieces and nephews.

Married in 1958 to Hector MacFadyen of Thunder Bay (Port Arthur), Ontario, Mary and Hector then moved to Toronto where they worked at CBC Radio for many years in the arts and current affairs. Hector died in 1976.

She will be missed very much by her daughter-in-law Catherine, granddaughter Piper and grandson Hunter, son-in-law Patrick, and our extended family and friends.

Mary was an inspiration to all who met her. Witty, beautiful and highly intelligent. Although I didn't know her for very long she left a lasting impression on me, her conversation was always interesting and pithy, never boring. She was what we all should aim to be. She will be sadly missed.

Mary was somebody I am glad to have known. She was intelligent and funny and she raised two wonderful human beings. She had great style and elan, was an original thinker and a feminist role model.
At the risk of sounding trite, they broke the mold after Mary was made.
Much love to Cathy, Sandy, Piper, Hunter, Christie and Patrick.

My sincere condolences to all the family.

Sandy whenever I would see you in the market it was usually because you were there to see your mother. You looked after her well. Though I never met Mary, I felt as though I had through all your stories of her. Her living proof of what a lovely lady she was lies in all of you (including the outlaws 😉).
