In memory of

Mary Lucas (nee Lazenka)

May 5, 1947 -  March 5, 2022

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Lucas (nee Lazenka), on March 5, 2022, at the age of 74. Predeceased by her parents Boris and Tsila and sisters Sophie and Sophie. Loving wife of 50 years to George, and cherished mother to Bill (Amy), Tom (Christine), and beloved Baba to Julia, George, Stephen, Sarah and Samantha. Dear sister of Evangelia, Helen, Steve, Angelo, and Jim. Mary was born in selo Nevolani, Lerinsko. She immigrated to Canada in the fall of 1954 at the age of 7. She sacrificed from an early age to support her family, and began working full time at the age of 17. After working for 50 years as a secretary she retired from Charles Howitt Public School. Mary was devoted to her family. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and she loved to spend time with them. She enjoyed baking with them, and knitting for them. Sunday family gatherings were special to her. Her love, support, and kindness will be engraved forever in their hearts and memories. Mary will always be remembered for her generosity towards her family, friends, and neighbours. She enjoyed sending her Monday morning humorous emails to her friends, and looked forward to the Tuesday get togethers with them. Mary will be sorely missed by her sister-in-law Helen and her family, as well as her many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. Friends may call at the Elgin Mills Funeral Centre, 1591 Elgin Mills Road E., Richmond Hill (SE corner of Elgin Mills and Leslie), 905-737-1720, on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral service will be held in our chapel on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 2 p.m. with a visitation 1 hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mackenzie Health Hospital and Canadian Cancer Society.

The world has just lost an incredible woman who is highly-respected and loved by all those who know her. I first met Mary as the office manager, my exceptional right hand assistant when I was the vice principal at Thornhill PS. I had the honour to meet the four generations of the Lucas family over the years. There will be a true void for all. May she Rest In Peace. Sending love to George, Bill, Tom and her beautiful grandchildren.

All my family, my parents are shocked and don't want to believe Mary is gone. We always will remember Mary for her kindness and hospitality. In these hard moments for my cousin George and all his family, we mourn with them
