Mary passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital on August 6, surrounded by the love of her family. She is survived by her children: Ian and his wife, Sharon, along with their daughters Isabelle and Abigail; Gina and her husband, Jonathan, and their daughter Tiffany with her husband, Raymond; and Jenny and her husband, Paulo, with their daughter Emily.
Mary immigrated to Canada with little to her name but a determined spirit. Here, she met her husband, started a family, and built a life rooted in love and hard work. She worked as a seamstress while devoting herself full-time to raising her three children.
A spirited and proud Canadian, Mary had a deep love for sports—following baseball and basketball, but saving her biggest cheers for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Although she couldn't speak English fluently, she could name most of the ’67 Maple Leafs by their jersey number. Outside of sports, she was also a passionate gardener, growing assorted vegetables and melons, and always sharing her bountiful harvest with friends and family.
Then there was the iPad—Mary was glued to the TSX, the S&P 500, and YouTube, always discovering new recipes. She was an extraordinary cook, famous for her Asian turkey at Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. She made sure that anyone who came over for a meal left well-fed—and with a “doggy bag” in hand. She had a selfless nature, always putting others’ needs before her own.
Above all, Mary was a devoted mother and grandmother whose love, generosity, and strength will be cherished forever. Her family is deeply grateful for the warmth she brought into their lives, and her memory will live on.
