In memory of

Mary Jones King

April 18, 1931 -  November 25, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Jones King on November 25 2021, at home, aged 90 years. Predeceased by beloved husband David, mother to Brian, Alistair (Lori) and Stuart (Shannon), grandmother to Alyssa and Joshua, sister to Irene and Alan (Evelyn), predeceased by siblings Margaret, Morag, Jessie, Carrie, Jim and Jack, aunt to numerous nieces and nephews.

May, to all who knew her, married David in 1958 and together emigrated with the children to Canada in 1967. People whose faith was the cornerstone of their lives, on their second Sunday in Canada they ventured down the road to Forward Baptist Church in Toronto where they remained as active members for more than 50 years and made many lifelong friends. Up until she was 88 she would still regularly make the drive from north Scarborough down to Woodbine and Gerrard for Sunday morning service. A true prayer warrior, you could guarantee that if May said she would pray for you, you were being prayed for.

A proud mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she took great pride and pleasure in the lives & accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, family and friends. She was loving, supportive and generous to a fault, if we can be half of what she was in these respects we will have done well.

Many thanks to the many doctors and nurses from Women’s College Hospital, palliative care department at Scarborough Grace Hospital and staff from St Elizabeth Healthcare who cared for mom daily. Special thanks to Marcia who saw mom twice almost everyday since June, held her hand, helped her read her bible and sing songs and became a good friend to May.

The last two years have been difficult for her and to see her wind down. The last five months have been particularly difficult as her body and mind began to fail but she faced it with the same dignity and grace that she lived her life with. The scripture on May’s baptism certificate from Revelation 2:10 says “ be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life”. Wear that crown well, you have earned it. Rest in peace mom

Not only did you give me life, you made my life better as you did for everyone who had the privilege of knowing you. It is an honour to be able to tell people that you are my mum. Rest well.

My dear Aunt May, you are now home with your loving Saviour Jesus who you loved all of your life, where there is no more sorrow, sickness or tears. I will run the race Jesus has before me here on earth because that is what you taught me to do, to follow Jesus. I will trust Jesus with my broken heart, He is the only one who can comfort me and I know you are asking Him to do that. Our times together here on earth were priceless and I am forever grateful for each moment and will cherish them all, until we see each other again. I love you so much Aunt May.

What a loss to this world. May was the most beautiful Christian lady and the best friend I could ever ask for. I am heartbroken to know she is gone, but happy that she is now in heaven, free from all worry and pain. We were neighbours for many years and enjoyed every minute we spent together.
Our loss is heavens gain.
Love you so much May. You’re the best.
