In memory of

Mary Ellen "Penny" Wert

March 22, 1942 -  May 2, 2017

Passed away at home in Toronto on May 2nd, 2017, with her husband and true love Garrie and her daughter Kathleen Roath (Mark) by her side. Penny will also be greatly missed by her beloved brother James Nolan (Leslie), and her cherished grandchildren Hannah and Connor, with whom she loved to get into mischief with. This was Penny’s fourth battle with cancer, and we thank the excellent, compassionate staff of the Michael Garron Hospital and the Community Care Access Centre for their loving care.

Penny was one of the most sincere, generous and kind people I have ever met. She was infectious – there was no way that you could escape her. She just had that impact on people. She was an integral part of my life growing up. I loved her like a mother and talked to her like a friend. She was so tolerant of us – and let us be crazy and act like the silly kids we were. I will fondly remember so many things about trips to Yorkville when she was getting her hair done, rides to the cottage where Kathleen and I probably drove her nuts, and long talks at the kitchen table. She was the most real person I think I have ever met. We hadn’t talked in several years, but I have never stopped thinking about her – and I certainly never stopped loving her. She was truly a wonderful, wonderful person – and I will miss her dearly.

Penny was the kindest, sweetest most beautiful person I ever met. We hit it off instantly our first trip to Toronto in 1976. We were sisters by marriage but we treated each other like sisters. Even though we didn't get to see each other often, it was like we just picked up where we left off every time we did see each other. I can still hear her saying Hi, Dar how ya doing? I will miss you everyday. I love you Pen. Rest in Peace sweet lady.

So sorry to hear about Mary Ellen. She was always so warm and welcoming to our family whenever we met; a beautiful woman for sure. God bless you all and I will keep you all in my prayers.
