In memory of

Mary Ellen Mooney

December 7, 1939 -  January 5, 2018

Mooney, Mary Ellen passed away after a long and courageous battle with emphysema at the Innisfree hospice in Kitchener, Ontario at the age of 78.

Born in Milford, Annapolis County, Nova Scotia, a loving daughter to late Ralph and Kathleen Charlton and a sister to Hilda Daniels, Marilyn Tester and Betty Black. She is survived by her husband of 23 years Patrick Mooney, her children Belinda Apt (Mike), Doran Emino (Cheryl) and Currie Emino (Janise), and her step children Nadine Mooney, Cheryl Phillips (Simon), Tommy Mooney and predeceased by Kenny Mooney. Loving grandmother of Justin and David Apt, Jeffrey and Austin Emino, Marawshaw and Timothy Emino, Tabitha and Simon Phillips and Taylor Mooney. Great-grandmother to five. There are countless other that could also be mentioned whose lives she touched and enriched.

Family and friends were utmost important to her. She loved country music, Sunday picnics, family gatherings, her dogs and most of all, Christmas. She loved Christmas. She always ensured that everybody had something personal and special from her for Christmas. She was always there for her family and friends whatever the occasions were, whether good or bad. She loved being around water and the calming effect it had on her. A couple of her favourite memories were her trip to Niagara-on-the-lake with her children and her trip to Hawaii with her husband. She also cherished the times spent with her sisters and their families: such as camping trips at Betty’s trailer or ski-doing and playing card games at Hilda’s house.

Special thank-you to all of the staff of CCAC for all of the loving & gentle care that was provided, to Dr Kelleher & Grace for their special care, and to Innisfree hospice staff for making her last days graceful and pain free.

There will be a Celebration of life at The Simple Alternative Funeral Centres, 1057 Brock Rd in Pickering on Jan 27, 2018 from 11 am - 2pm.
Family ask, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Innisfree Hospice Center in Kitchener in memory of Mary Mooney

I meet this wonderful lady almost 17 years ago when I became friends with her daughter Belinda and fell in love with her the moment we meet. We always said it was because we had the east coast in our blood. Later on after my mom died, Mary became my 2nd Mom and that's how we continued the rest of our friendship. She was my 2nd Mom and I loved her like she was my own mom. I would call her and tell her things that I would only tell my mom and she was great at listening. She would voice her own opinion and god knows she had many. I was blessed to have her in my life for all these years and she will continue to hold a special spot in my heart. #2 Mom say hi to my parents and I miss you all.
Love ya.

Andrea Samadi (My second Mom when I was a teen to adulthood)

Entered January 11, 2018 from Chandler, AZ

I was so sorry to hear this news. Mary was a huge part of my teen years, and we remained friends throughout my adult life. She was my guardian angel sending emails, love and praise for the life and family I was building. She offered support when times were difficult and remained a friend to me. I will miss her. I'm sending my thoughts and prayers to Currie, Janise, Doran, Cheryl, Belinda, Mike and the entire family at this very difficult time.

Memories I will Cherish:
Mary always sent me my first Christmas card and it was always a personalized card that I've kept. When I open the windows, and cold air comes in, I think of Mary enjoying the cool breeze and fresh air. I've still got a glass mirror perfume holder in my bathroom she gave me for Christmas when I was a teen. It's in my bathroom to remind me of her. My last visit to see her in Kitchener she gave me a tea cup from her collection. I've been having tea in her cup to remember her and even though the past 18 years, I lived outside of Canada, she kept in close contact and I'm thankful for the love and support she provided me for the past 30 years.
