In memory of

Martha Davey

February 16, 1937 -  May 14, 2023

Martha passed away peacefully on Sunday May 14, 2023, at the age of 86. Cherished and loving wife of Dr. Keith Walker Davey (deceased); stepmother of Sara (Perry, deceased); adoring grandmother of Amanda (Chris) and Samantha (Derick) and great-grandmother of Rylee, Owen. Sean and Skye. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren adored Martha. Much loved Aunt of Joanne, Karen, John, Anthony, Alyse, Alexi and Christy. Martha was predeceased by her brothers Anthony and George and is survived by her sister Athena.

Martha was born and raised in Toronto until she was offered an incredible opportunity with Keith to move to the Northwest Territories. There, Keith and Martha created the National School of Dental Therapy in Fort Smith, NWT. This program was instrumental in training dental therapists to provide primary dental care and work in isolated communities in Canada’s Arctic and in Saskatchewan.

Martha and Keith ultimately retired to North Vancouver where Martha was an active volunteer in the art community. She volunteered for the Vancouver Art Gallery and for several smaller local art galleries, most notably The Silk Purse and The Ferry Building in West Vancouver. Martha was an avid painter with oils being her favourite medium. Martha enjoyed sewing and gardening and her home in North Vancouver had the most beautiful gardens. Martha and Keith enjoyed many wonderful adventure-filled trips and Martha especially enjoyed coming to Toronto each summer to spend a week at her niece’s cottage.

The family would like to thank Sunrise of Erin Mills for their care and compassion provided to Martha in her final weeks.

As per Martha’s request there will be no funeral service however, donations in Martha’s memory may be made to the Canadian Lung Association.

My sincerest condolence to
Tena and her Family. I had the pleasure of knowing Martha for many years.
The moving of Martha to Tena’s residence must have been a blessing for her sister.
I will be thinking of you all and will offer a silent prayer to give you peace.
With love Elisabeth.

It’s never easy losing someone, especially when that someone is family, but it’s comforting knowing that my Grandma is now with my Grandpa and her family again. I’ll never forget all the things you taught me throughout my years, like my appreciation for art, gardening, and cooking. No one can make microwave brownies as good as you! I’ll never forget all the visits we did to the art gallery, that ended with a Nanaimo bar at the cafeteria. I’ll never forgot seeing you at all my choir performances, no matter where they were. I’ll never forget how proud you were of me for even the smallest things. I’ll never forget you, I love you Grandma!

Its with great sadness that my family and I have lost a very important person in our lives. Martha was not only a loving wife to her husband for 50 + years Keith she was a loving grandmother and great grandmother to her family in Vancouver. Martha had many passions in life and she enjoyed her time with family and friends. Always thinking of you forever and always.

Martha was great support to the students at NSDT. She and Keith accomplished ever so much in pioneering dental therapy for First Nations students and were loved and respected by all.

My sincerest condolences to all Martha’s family! Our relationship spans over 40 years of friendship! The first thing I remember about Martha that we were both from Toronto! We had lots in common and became fast friends! We would get together for dinner parties and laughed our heads off! We spent two memorable New Year’s together! Through our friendship with Martha and Keith we got to know Keith’s Daughter Sara who continues to be our friend. What a great family along with their Grandchildren! We were devastated when Keith retired and left the province! We managed to visit them and Martha came to visit us in Prince Albert. Martha will be missed greatly!
