Marlena Lynn Joaquin, 27, passed away peacefully at 5:15pm on Friday, June 24, 2016.

Marlena was born June 7, 1989 in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and adopted by Janet McLellan at six months of age. Marlena lived with her mother and sister Jessica in Edmonton and the Dominican Republic before moving to Toronto in 1999. She is survived by her 11 year-old daughter, Maya Joaquin, her sister Jessica Joaquin (Michael Ford), her niece Avery Ford and her loving mother Janet McLellan, all of Toronto, ON. Marlena is also survived by a large extended family including her father Nelson Joaquin of Cambridge, ON; sister Charlenyys Joaquin of New York, NY; half-sister Marjorie Rivas of Cambridge, ON; Aunt Joan McLellan (Mike Oldham) of Toronto, ON; Uncle Doug McLellan (Caroline Yeung) of Gananoque, ON; Aunt Donna McLellan of Toronto, ON; Uncle Al McLellan (Sandra McLellan) of Cobourg, ON; Aunt Arlene Jestin (Don Jestin) of Edmonton, AB; Aunt Mary Buzzing, of Red Deer, AB; cousin Megan Highet of Edmonton, AB; cousins Morgan and James McLellan of Toronto, ON; Cousins Sally and Jack Buzzing of Red Deer, AB; cousins Tyler, John, William and Suzanna McLellan of Cobourg, ON and her birth mother Dejanira Flores of the Dominican Republic. She is preceeded in death by her grandparents Doug and Margaret McLellan formerly of Edmonton, AB. Marlena leaves behind a very large and dear group of friends – far too many to name.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to a trust fund that has been set up for her daughter Maya Joaquin.Donations may be made at any Canadian branch of the Bank of Montreal with the following information.
