In memory of

Mark Sikich

July 26, 1962 -  May 20, 2016

Mark Lyle Sikich, age 53, of Richmond Hill, ON, passed away on Friday May 20th in his home after a courageous fight with cancer.

Mark was born July 26th, 1962 in Flin Flon, Manitoba to Mike and Adeline Sikich. He graduated from Applewood Heights Secondary School in Mississauga in 1981 and received his professional engineering degree from The University of Windsor in 1985.

Mark was an excellent swimmer and scuba diver who, as a young man, worked as a lifeguard, swim instructor and voluntarily taught swimming to disadvantaged children and Seniors.

A brave survivor of cancer from his mid twenties, Mark gave back to his community as an organizer of the Kitchener/Waterloo Terry Fox Run and as a support counsellor for the Canadian Cancer Society.

Mark also suffered with Multiple Sclerosis and associated debilitating health issues including chronic pain for many years before a more recent diagnosis of terminal cancer. Despite all this Mark never lost his witty sense of humour, optimistic outlook or his desire to fight and live.

He is survived by mother Adeline, father Mike, brother Blaine, sister-in-law Michele, nephews Scott and Eric and niece Cameron Sikich and beloved pet BB.

A Memorial Visitation and Reception in memory of Mark will be held at Elgin Mills Visitation Centre on Saturday, May 28th, 2016 from 1:00 – 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that for those wishing to do so, donations be made to either the MS Society, the Canadian Cancer Society or The Terry Fox Foundation.
