In memory of

Maria Rosa Nunes Bertao

November 30, 1938 -  September 28, 2025

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister. A strong and caring woman, she leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and devotion to her family.

Loving wife to Joaquim for an incredible 67 years, their journey began in Portugal and continued in Canada, where they arrived together in 1957 to build a life rooted in hard work and unwavering commitment. She was a cherished mother to Lucy (Jose) Inez, adored grandmother to Michelle (Jermaine), Marc (Paulina), and Noah, and proud great-grandmother to Jermaine Jr., Maliyah, Isabella, and Gabriella. She was also a devoted sister to the late Frank.

Her life was marked by tireless dedication—working for many years, always putting others before herself. She worried about the little things, always ensuring the wellbeing of those around her. Her thoughtfulness extended to the meals she lovingly prepared, often crafting special dishes tailored to each person’s tastes. Her grandchildren will forever remember her as the one who was always prepared, always present, and always putting family first.

She found joy in the simple pleasures: tending to her rose bushes in the garden, solving puzzles during the winter months, watching movies with family while enjoying snacks.

Her strength and toughness were matched only by her compassion. She continued to care for her husband with deep devotion, visiting him in the nursing home and bringing his favorite meals, a testament to her enduring love.

She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her warmth, her strength, and the countless ways she made life better for those around her.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Maria to the Kidney Foundation or to Diabetes Canada.

Lucy, listen to the sound of the birds and bells, feel the wind and the sun, see the twinkle in the night sky, this is your Mom sending you the message that she is safe, embraced by the wings of angels.
