It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother and grandmother Maria Giannakopoulos (nee Stassis) on December 28, 2025 in Scarborough, Ontario. Maria was born on February 2, 1940 in Peyia, Paphos, Cyprus.
Maria will be missed by her beloved husband, Dionysios, children Savvas (Betty) and Georgia (Mike) and her four grandsons, Steven, Dean,Theodore and Alexander. She is predeceased by her parents Savvas and Fostira Stassis of Paphos, and sister to Anna and Theodosis and remembered by surviving brothers Phillip and Agapios of Paphos, Cyprus. Maria will also be missed by many nieces and nephews.
Maria came to Canada with her sister in 1965 for better opportunities. Maria married her husband of 50 years and took care of her two children. She took pride in keeping a loving home by cooking, embroidery and knitting. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cultivating vegetables in the summertime. She later took care of her grandsons and they remember her with fond memories of hugs and candy.
Maria was a good friend and neighbour. She will be remembered for her generosity, kindness and joy she brought to everyone.
