In memory of

Maria Chios

Maria Chios (née Vlahos)
December 13, 1927 – June 30, 2025

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished mother, Yiayia, and great matriarch, Maria Chios, who passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025, at the age of 97.

Maria was born on December 13, 1927, in the mountain village of Vourvoura, Greece. The youngest of eight siblings, she grew up surrounded by the strength and traditions of a large, loving family.

After marrying her beloved husband, Michael Chios, and having her two children, Demetrius (Jim) and Demetria (Toula), Maria immigrated to Canada.

Maria was endlessly proud of her family. She is survived by her two children, daughter in law (Mena), son in law (Peter) and 4 grandchildren (Michael, Louie, Marie and Paulina). They were the light of her life, and she celebrated every accomplishment, milestone, and visit with joy and pride.

Maria will be remembered for her kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to her family. Her hands were rarely still—whether she was cooking for a tableful of guests, crocheting something beautiful, or tending to her garden.

Though she has now joined her husband and siblings, the legacy she leaves behind will always be remembered.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at the Hellenic Home for their care and support.
