In memory of

Margaretha "Poppy" Bouwman

August 5, 1928 -  December 4, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaretha Maria “Poppy” Bouwman (nee Van den Bosch), the loving mother of Margaret (predeceased in 2018) and Harry (Mary Rose) and a special Oma to William and Olivia. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews of whom she was very close to and shared many fun times with.

Poppy passed away peacefully December 4, 2021 at 93 years of age at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. She was born August 5, 1928 in Indonesia to Jerrard and Connie Van den Bosch. She was predeceased by her four siblings, Andre (Ans) and Hans (Ena) of the Netherlands, Connie of Indonesia and Truss Vink (Bert) of Canada. Poppy and her family left Indonesia in 1940 when her father passed away and returned to the Netherlands.

Poppy met Will Bouwman, an engineer while studying nursing. The couple married once they finished their schooling and immigrated to Toronto, Canada in the early 1950s to start their careers and family. Poppy worked as a Registered Nurse at many Toronto hospitals and retired from Riverdale Hospital at 65 years of age. Poppy loved nursing and continued to work part time for Seniors for Seniors where she developed close bonds with those in her care. Poppy had a variety of interests and lived life to the fullest. She led an active life and spent lots of time traveling, cycling, sailing, swimming and hiking. She was quick witted and enjoyed social gatherings especially those with family. She loved music and performing with the Gilbert and Sullivan theatre group. Her zest for living, incredible strength and love will be dearly missed. The Bouwman family greatly appreciates the support provided to Poppy by the Vink family. Thank you Johan and Tammy for their loving care during Pop’s later years.
