In memory of

Margaret Fenton

February 20, 1940 -  July 30, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Fenton (nee Turton) on July 30, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Marg was born in Warrington, England on February 20th, 1940. Her parents immigrated to Canada in December 1947 with their three young girls, Barb, Marg and Cathy. The family settled in Brantford, where Marg’s sisters, Libby and Janet, were born.

Marg excelled in school both academically and athletically, and earned a B.A. at McMaster. She began her career as a teacher in Oakville and later taught English at York Mills Collegiate in North York, where she met her husband Doug. After taking time away to raise their three children, she finished her career teaching elementary school in Scarborough.

In retirement, Marg was in constant motion, joining her many friends in her passions for travel, cycling, reading, music, theatre and cryptic crosswords. She treasured the cancer survivor friends who shared her journey for more than 25 years, and had a lasting, special friendship with Jack Prentice. She was adored by all members of her extended family, even when she was beating them at card games or correcting their grammar, both of which happened with alarming regularity.

Marg is predeceased by her parents Kenneth and Mary Turton; her sisters Barb and Libby; her husband Doug; her granddaughter Carmen; and her lifelong best friend Liz Mundy. She is survived and missed by her children Dave (Beth), Rob (Dayna), and Cat (Corey); her grandchildren Ry, Elle, Gabe, Mick, Paige, Brynn and Jill; her sisters Jan (Ray) and Cathy; and the families of all four of her sisters.

A visitation for Marg will be held at the Mt Pleasant Funeral Centre, 375 Mt Pleasant Road, on Tuesday, August 19, between 4-8p.m. For those who wish, donations in her memory may be made to the Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation.

Marg was a portrait of courage. No matter how many obstacles were thrown at her, and there were many, there was always a radiant smile, a cheery voice and an infectious optimism. Her courage was augmented with kindness, thoughtfulness and an inspiring zest for life. She was a gracious neighbour who became a treasured friend.

We were saddened to learn of Marg's death. Linda (Dowden) knew Marg from childhood as our parents were good friends. There are many occasions in high school and later that Marg is remembered as a caring and delightful person. There were several times that she was so helpful. In recent years, contact has been phone calls, emails and her wonderful Christmas letter. She shared so much of her cancer journey and the pride she had of her children and grandchildren.
She remained positive through the many treatments - Marg's attitude and enjoyment of her many activities and her friend Jack was an inspiration to read.
She will be sadly missed. Love Doug & Linda

We met Marg when her niece became our sons partner 26 years ago .
Marg and I became quick friends .
John and I enjoyed many times with her family and we spent some good times with Marg and Jack .
Marg and I talked regularly and always had lots to chat about “ on the same page “
She was the most upbeat person as she was constantly dealt the health cards that were not winners .
I will miss her greatly as I face a new life of widowhood that she has faced with strength fun and adventure for years .
My sincere condolences to all her loving family who she loved dearly
