With grateful hearts for a life well-lived, we mourn the passing of our mother Margaret Elizabeth. Margaret was born in Toronto, the much beloved daughter of Margaret “Rita” and Wallace. She grew up surrounded by a large extended family with many cousins who became her childhood companions. They lived in close proximity to one another which made this possible. Although they all lived though economically challenging times, Margaret never felt deprived as her parents and extended family made their own fun with dances both in their homes and as a community with suppers and church events to keep things interesting and positive. As a result, Margaret followed throughout her entire life with a joy of dancing. She was outgoing and personable and made friends easily. Margaret and Maurice married in 1954 and remained good friends all their lives. They had three children, Karen, David and Craig who they provided for with consistency and who were loved deeply. The family spent a lot of time at the beloved family cottage on Sturgeon Lake in Lindsay and enjoyed camping trips, especially the ‘big one’ to British Columbia . During her married life Margaret developed a talent for baking, continued with her sewing and also knit many lovely garments including heavy knitted sweaters and afghan blankets for her family. She was a very involved Guide leader and participated in camping and leadership for many years. She developed a love of flowers through her gardening and church altar work, eventually becoming a well known floral designer in a number of florist shops in Scarborough and Oakville. Margaret was a skilled secretary for a number of organizations during her employment life, loved her jobs and the friends she made along the way. She was well travelled and enjoyed the trips through her world adventures with her loving life-partner of many years, Reg Parsons. Especially important to Margaret was her ‘snow-bird’ winter home in Florida. Even more was the importance to Margaret of her grandchildren, Erin, Daniel , Joanna, Philip and Mitchell. She welcomed Jim (Karen) and Lynne (David) with open arms when her children started their own families as she did later with her grandchildrens’ spouses, Andrew (Erin), William (Joanna) Amanda (Daniel) and Sarah (Philip), when they also became family. Margaret’s great-grandchildren, Anna, Natalie, Lauren, Rosalie, Coraline and Eden were her treasures and she loved spending time with them all. We will miss you Mom and thank you for being an abiding, loving mother to us your children and a constant presence in the lives of your family.
