Margaret McIvor passed away peacefully at Georgetown Hospital with her loving family by her side on April 11, 2024, after a brief illness. She was the second of four children born to Joseph and Grace Kinney (nee Page) and is survived by her sister Clare McGough (Danny) and brother Doug Kinney (Nancy). Margaret was dearly loved by her four children Michael McIvor, Lindsey Rhamey and Jennifer Keeler (Martin), predeceased by Greg McIvor. She fiercely loved her five grandchildren, Luke Keeler (Anna), Brayden Keeler, Stephanie Symons (Andrew), Owen Keeler (Sydney) and Ashley Rhamey. She was an adored and doting great grandmother to Eloise Newman. Margaret’s children, grandchildren and great grandchild will always cherish their wonderful memories of “Nana” and “Nannie” who brightened their lives and showed them immense love throughout the years. She will also be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews and many beloved friends.
Margaret was a strong and independent woman throughout her lifetime and was very accomplished. She owned and operated five childcare centers, volunteered for over forty-five years at the Credit Valley Hospital, and was a trained pianist. She was a voracious reader who read a book a day, a devoted gardener and horticulturist, and played bridge with her friends the week before she passed away. She enjoyed classical music, completing the daily newspaper crossword puzzle, and in recent years especially loved to travel with her family. She had a remarkable memory, sharp mind, and was a great sport — particularly taking and dishing out a lot of teasing at family gatherings. She was able to cultivate lasting and loving friendships over the years and touched the lives of people of all ages. She leaves behind laughter, fond memories and lives enriched with her kindness and generosity. She will be deeply missed.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Georgetown Hospital. Margaret and her family were treated with great respect and compassion right up until the end of her life. As per Margaret’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral. Instead, Margaret asked for a party. A celebration of life will take place at Gordon Alcott Hall, Gordon Alcott Arena, 221 Guelph St., Georgetown, L7G 4A8, on Saturday April 20, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honour of Margaret to the Georgetown Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. Messages of condolence may be made at www.etouch.ca
