In memory of

Maire Lainevool

July 22, 1936 -  March 10, 2020

Maire Lainevool of Toronto Ontario, passed away on Tuesday March 10th 2020 . She was born to the late Adolf Freidrich Saalmann and Therese Elisabeth Saalman in Tallinn Estonia on July 22 1936.
She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Merike Lainevool Mighell and her husband Bob, her son Hillar Arvo Lainevool and his wife Erin, and her grandchildren Keara, Emilia and Annika.
As a child Maire lived in Sweden, and then as a teenager in Toronto Canada. In Toronto Maire attended Riverdale High School, and later earned a Bachelor of Arts and her Masters in Science at the University of Toronto. She was an active member of the Filiae Patriae sorority, was its Chairman 1970 – 1971, and helped to organize several Estonian events. She was a science teacher at Victoria Park High School, and later was the head of the Science Department at AISP, the Alternative Independent Study Program.
She was married to Juri Lainevool for 25 years, and later was partner to Toomas Metsala for 27 years until his passing.
Family and friends were Maire’s passion and delight – she hardly missed a social occasion, or an excuse for hosting a party or dinner. Teaching was the perfect profession for her, not only because she was passionate about helping kids to reach their potential, but because it left her summers free to tend to her beautiful garden.
Maire passed away while recovering from a heart attack, at Toronto General Hospital.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday March 14th 2020, at the Mount Pleasant Funeral Centre 375 Mount Pleasant Road, Toronto, ON M4T 2V8 (416) 485-5572, Visitation 1:30pm with service to follow at 2:00pm. Refreshements will be served after the service.
Flowers are welcome as are donations to The International Estonian Centre in her name.
