Luke Yip passed away peacefully at home on July 6, 2017 after a hard fought battle with illness. His life will be remembered by the many people whose lives he touched as an educator, family man, colleague and friend.

He was born in Manila, Philippines; the son of Rev. Peter Yip, an Anglican priest and one of six siblings. He was educated at Diocesan Boys School, Hong Kong and then studied at the University of Hong Kong where he graduated in 1959 with an Honours Bachelor of Arts degree. Later, he would also receive Diplomas of Education from both the University of Hong Kong (1961) and University of Calgary (1973).

After graduation, he first worked as a teacher and then as Education Officer in the Department of Education in Hong Kong. In 1969, wanting to escape the riots in Hong Kong, he immigrated with his wife Rebecca and two oldest daughters to Canada. While in Canada, the younger son and daughter were born. He worked as a high school teacher in the town of Olds, Alberta where he was the first Chinese teacher in this small farming community. In 1974, he returned to Hong Kong to become the longest serving principal of St. Stephen's College. He worked as principal for 25 years and then stayed on another year as supervisor. His educational visions and his determination to provide high quality education with solid Christian values shaped the futures of many young people in positive ways. He changed not only policies at his own school but others as well, especially through his work on the HK Subsidized Secondary Schools Council. He was a mentor to students and staff alike. In 1988-1989, he was a member of the Basic Law Consultative Committee that helped to draft the Basic Law of Hong Kong for the 1997 Handover. He returned to Canada in 2000 to enjoy retirement.

He will be remembered and loved as a family man. His unconditional love, guidance and support for his wife, children and grandchildren were immeasurable and they always took priority in all life decisions that he made.
He was humorous, dependable, trustworthy and loyal. His love for God and faith were steadfast.

He is survived by his wife, younger brother, four children and their spouses and five grandchildren. He will be missed by all.
