Brock, Lucy (née Sobura)

Lucy passed peacefully on February 14, 2018, surrounded by her family. She is the beloved wife of Dave, loving mother of Andrew and his wife Cecile, and grandmother of Cameron. She is also the dear sister of John Sobura and his wife Donna, Krys Mazur and her husband Ed; and sister-in-law of Brian Brock and his wife Betty Lou. She is Ciocia and aunt to Adam, Joanne, Justin, Andrea, Glen, Brock, Brianne and the late Shannon.

Lucy was an accomplished high school teacher, civil servant, and volunteer. She was an avid reader, puzzle-solver, crossword master, and crafts enthusiast. Lucy was loving, generous, and incredibly kind to everyone she knew. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

Dear Lucy,

Thank you for showing me what a caring, compassionate, and courageous woman you were. I am sadden for losing such a great friend, you will always be in my heart.

It will be very difficult for me not to have you to share our grandson's milestones together. But I know you will be watching every step, and every milestone Cameron makes.

I will treasure the milestones we celebrated together for Cecile and Andrew. I will miss the emails, and phone calls between us. But I will ensure our sweet memories will never be forgotten, and they will be shared between our grandson in many years to come.

I will miss you dearly Lucy,
May God be with you.

Rest in Peace

I first met Lucy when I starting teaching in Dunnville ON in the early 70's so I have known her for almost 50 years. She was quiet, kind, generous and had a great sense of humour. She was a true friend and I will miss her...

Dave and Andrew, I am so sorry for your loss. It is tragic. Lucy is one of the kindest and happiest people in this world. We will miss receiving emails from Lucy. Our friendship goes back many years. I have many fond memories, especially of Lucy's laughter and generosity.

Andrew Brock (Son)

Entered February 16, 2018 from Toronto

My mother was born in Yvoir, Belgium on June 30, 1946, to parents Antoni and Teresa. She immigrated to Canada with her family as a toddler, landing at Pier 21 and eventually settling in Toronto.

English was her 4th language, after speaking Polish in the home and French and Flemish in Belgium. She did very well in school, earning an Honours Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Toronto and subsequently completing teacher's college at OISE.

She began her career as a high school teacher, and later became an accomplished civil servant. She also worked as a merchandiser for a large card and stationary company and was an avid volunteer. She volunteered regularly with the Canadian Cancer Society, and up until her passing knitted blankets to be given out to newborn babies.

During her time as a civil servant, she met my father Dave. They were married in 1976 and I was born in 1986. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, Ciocia and aunt and very much loved her family.

For the last ten years she lived with a rare form of Myositis, an inflammatory muscle disease. She battled her illness courageously and it was never able to defeat her. Despite her lack of physical strength she was always the strongest amongst us.

She passed away peacefully on February 14, 2018, with her family by her side.
