Louie Ilija Dimovski (a.k.a. Louie Fina), age 78, passed away peacefully at home on July 9th, 2025. Born on July 31st, 1946, in Biljanik, Macedonia, to Mitre and Kata (née Dojcinovski) Dimovski, Louie was the 9th of 10 children in a large and loving family. Encouraged and supported by his younger sister Velika, Louie emigrated to Canada as a young 22 year old man on October 11th, 1968 with dreams of becoming a teacher, but found his true calling as a skilled auto mechanic. He started off by working at the GM plant in Oshawa. Then, he earned his mechanic licence in 1983 and went on to open and run Louie’s Service Centre for 32 years. Along the way, his wife Anetka and son Mike joined him at the Garage, turning it into a true family-run business where every customer was treated like one of their own. He worked long, dedicated hours until the age of 76.
Louie was a devoted family man whose love and loyalty extended far beyond his own household. In 1973, he proudly sponsored his parents Mitre and Kata, along with his brother Jordan’s family, to reunite and lay the foundation for a new life together. Louie had an unmatched zest for life and a personality that lit up every room. He was a natural entertainer; he was a storyteller, and a jokester, who was the life of every gathering. He had a remarkable ability to bring laughter to any occasion, no matter how big or small. If you met Louie, you never forgot him. He had that rare presence that commanded attention through warmth, humour, and a spark that drew people in.
Louie loved fishing, soccer, and spending time at the family cottage, but his greatest joy was dancing—especially leading the pustano oro, a traditional Macedonian dance. His energy, excitement, and signature dance moves were iconic, matched by none and developed throughout the years while dancing in Ensemble Makedonka. He loved being in the spotlight with friends and family cheering him on. He was affectionately known by many as “Twinkle Toes”.
Louie is survived by his beloved wife of almost 49 years, Anetka Dimovski (née Crngarov), and his children:
• Kathy Mertsis (husband Steve and son Dimitre)
• Mary Romas (husband George and daughter Melania)
• Mike Dimovski (partner Magda)
He is also lovingly remembered by his siblings, Jordan (Milica) and Velika (Boshe), and many extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mitre and Kata, and his siblings: Patsa (Tsane), Lubica (Alekso), Slavka (Tome), Svetanka (Jonche), and Milica (Stevo).
Louie’s legacy is one of joy, generosity, hard work, and unforgettable charm. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
