In memory of
Lorne Ford
July 9, 1926 -
March 19, 2017
Lorne B. Ford of Pickering, Ontario, passed away peacefully at home on March 19, 2017 in his 91st year. Lorne was surrounded by family and love when he made his final journey home to reunite with his wife and only love of 47 years, Elizabeth (Shaw) Ford.
Lorne was known as Papa by all who loved him and loved by almost everyone who met him. During the last years of his life he was able to focus on what he loved the most, his family. The highlight of this time was his annual trip to Woodbine Racetrack for his birthday, and dessert. Papa loved his sweets and in the last couple of years he was able to do exactly what he wanted and have his dessert for dinner.
As a young man, Papa joined the Canadian Armed forces when he was only 18 years old where he was a firearms instructor. He took great pride in the fact that he was a veteran. He was also took great pride in the fact that he was a third degree Master Mason and Treasurer of his lodge. Papa had many jobs, working at John Inglis, Nielsen and the years he spent as a tool and die maker. It wasn't until age 40 that he finally settled into his passion, which was teaching. For 35 years Papa got to do exactly what he loved and spent his time teaching machine shop at Cederbrae Collegiate. He was the head of the technical department as well as the night school principle until he retired at age 64. Even though he retired, he never stopped teaching. After leaving Cederbrae, Papa devoted most of his time on woodworking and making furniture. A hobby that filled his heart and our homes.
Papa had a love of fishing and the water. But not swimming, never swimming. His time on the water was spent in boat, or by the lake in Picton Ontario where he had his beloved trailer and spent many summers with his family by his side.
Papa was predeceased by his oldest son David and survived by his children, Bruce (Don Marie), Sandy, Elizabeth, Norma (Martin) and Martha (George). By his grandchildren, Adam, Shannon (Chris), Renee, Sara (Jon), Travis, Naomi, Alex, Noah and James. And his great grand children, Emily, Parker, Hannah and Preston.
We will miss him every second of every day.
