In memory of

Loretta Ruth Marks

Loretta Ruth Marks
February 18th, 1934 - May 25th, 2024

Loretta was born on February 18th, 1934 and was mother to Gary and Daryl, Grandmother to Jeff Marks and Danielle Keter, and great-grandmother to Nate, Liam and Jack. She was predeceased by her wonderful husband, Howard. Loretta was the eldest of five siblings (Maureen, Norman, Howard, and John) and loved them all dearly.

She was born in London, England, five years before World War 2, and as a young child, was evacuated along with her sister Maureen, to Cardiff, Wales.

While still in her teens, she met the love of her life, Howard Marks, and enjoyed 58 years of marriage until his passing in 2012.

Growing up in England, she taught typewriting and short-hand writing and continued using those skills in Toronto where she worked as an executive assistant for several of the largest advertising agencies in the country.

In 1973, the family packed their bags and emigrated to Canada. She and her husband Howard were terrified to be making such a move but felt that Canada would offer great opportunities to her two sons, and she wanted nothing but the best for her boys.

Our family deeply appreciates the incredible outpouring of love and support that we have received. Nothing will fill the void that has been left in our hearts, but your kind words have made these last few days that much easier.

We love you, Mum, and will miss you every day and every moment of our lives. You have been so amazing, and we will treasure all of the beautiful memories of you and Dad. Xx

To my beautiful mum.

I love you so much, and can't thank you enough for everything you did for me. You were my biggest fan when it came to acting, and when I got a gig, you were the first person I called. I will think of you every day, and while I will probably shed a tear, I will also smile at the wonderful memories that I have of you.

Sleep well, Bright Eyes.
Beyond words,
Beyond time,
Beyond everything.

Loretta was always warm and welcoming when Daryl invited me into the Marks' home. She loved to laugh, had a very British sense of humor...I believe I was first introduced to Monty Python at her home and I often later would run into her at local community theater shows where she would enjoy supporting Daryl's theatrical performances. She will be remembered fondly.

Michel and I are sorry for your loss and we offer you our sincere condolences.
One of our most famous Quebecois poets wrote once: "C'est beau, la mort. C'est plein de vie dedans"
(Death is beautiful. It's full of life inside). It might lose its beauty in translation, but this quote always helped me during those difficult times. Thinking and praying for you.
