Wai Ching Lo was born on October 20, 1930 in Canton, China. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on September 23, 2022. She grew up in a large family as the forth eldest of ten siblings in Canton in the midst of World War II. In her high school days, she enjoyed going to “Afternoon Tea Dances” with her boyfriend, Shiu Kum Ma. In 1952, she married this high school sweetheart in Guangzhou and they spent their honeymoon in Shanghai and Hangzhou, China. Together they had five children (Frances, Kenneth, Alice, Grace, and Judy), five granddaughters, two grandsons and eleven great grandchildren.

Wai Ching studied accounting in high school and worked for the Bank of China in Guangzhou. In 1954, she and her family migrated to Hong Kong. She focused on raising her children in the early years. In 1974 she decided to start a maternity fashion line and became an entrepreneur, successfully expanding from one to three retail locations.

Wai Ching had always enjoyed different performing arts. After she immigrated to Toronto in 1989, she continued with ballroom dancing parties and Chinese opera singing performances. In her last few years, she practiced her opera singing under the apprenticeship of Master Yuk Choy Wong. Wai Ching would often frequent the stage in male acting roles as she was known for her Alto voice. Wai Ching also loved traveling and taking photographs. She had visited many places around the world and enjoyed holiday on cruises with her family.

Wai Ching’s life was filled with an abundance of joy and happiness. She was a resilient woman and an inspiring female role model for her children and grandchildren and all those around her. She exuded constant love, acceptance, kindness, glamour, grace and elegance amongst her family, relatives and friends. She was always loved and respected. She will be deeply missed and remembered fondly by all those whose lives she touched.
