In memory of

Leonard William McIntosh

With much reluctance, just 14 weeks after a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, our beloved William left us in the wee hours of Sunday, June 4, 2023. Born August 9, 1931 in St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. In his 92nd year, he died peacefully at Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry ON. Predeceased by his parents Leonard William McIntosh Sr, and Mary (Maisie) Cranstoun, his sisters Elaine, Louise & Irenie, and brother Arthur. Survived by sisters Doris in St Thomas, USVI, and Sibyl in Ottawa.

William was quite the character: sprinter, rollerblader, keen tennis and pickleball player and long-time Blue Jays fan. He was very proud of his 31 years’ service with Canadian Tire Corporation. And oh, how many ways he could find to use duct tape! But above all, he was the beloved life partner and soulmate of 37 years to Jenny McLellan-Knox (formerly von Buchstab), proud and much-loved father of Anne Fournier, James McIntosh (Wendy) and Leslie Paterson (Allan). Bill was also loved by Victor & Aysha von Buchstab and Mary Ellen & Pierre-Michel LeBouedec. Poppa/Pappy to grandkids Jade, Max & Olivia; Emma; Zakary; Melanie & Matisse; William & Kieron, of whom he was immensely proud.

At William’s request, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
The family extends grateful thanks to Dr. Iqbal, Dr. Azi and the “Green Team” at Durham Regional Cancer Centre, and the visiting health care team who allowed him to stay at home as as long as possible. Special thanks to the staff and volunteers of Oak Ridges Hospice in Port Perry for their amazing and compassionate care of William (and the family too) in the last few days of his life.

If desired, donations in memory of William may be made to Oak Ridges Hospice (Port Perry) or Lakeridge Health Foundation. Please click on 'Donations' > 'Make a Donation' button in the top right corner for direct access to the foundation webpages.

I've never been the best with my words, or rather with knowing when to use them or what to say especially it comes to social situations. if this even qualifies under the category of a social situation. Either way I wanted to leave something here regardless of how my rambling may sound.

I can't speak for anyone but myself, but for me my Poppa (Willy) was an interesting quirky and fun loving guy. He always had smiles and jokes to go around even if they weren't always the most appropriate. He was one of the most important people in my life. Thinking back on it I can attribute a good portion of my love for boats/nautical art and maps back to him.

I will cherish the memories and time i had with him in my life for the rest of my days. I know I wouldn't be the man I am today without him in my life.

My most sincere and heartfelt condolences to the entire McIntosh family. My lifelong friend Jamie (William's son) and I grew up across the street from one another. We still maintain a sincere and meaningful friendship. Our common thread is that we both had great Dads! William (Bill) was an awesome influence on Jamie's life (as well as his sisters)! I know they will all miss him dearly. I have such great memories of the whole family. Bill was an intelligent, humorous and interesting gentleman! I do hope that everyone enjoys his "celebration of life" Saturday July 22nd. I wish I could be there, but I will in spirit!
Ron
