In memory of
Lee (Lena) Fenton-Slute
February 18, 1920 -
April 20, 2022
Passed away peacefully on April 20, 2022 at 102. Born in Kindersley, Saskatchewan, daughter of Clifford and Alice (Wainwright) Wilcock from Leeds, England. Lee was the first of four children, followed by Thomas, Jean and Clifford. She reminisced about growing up on the farm, south of Glidden, the animals, riding the horse to school, and helping her father work on the model T.
In 1938, after the drought years, the area was designated community pasture. The family moved to Toronto, close to the rest of the Wilcock family on Waverley Road in the Beach area, where she became a devoted user of the Kew Beach Library. Lee married David Fenton and they had Douglas (late Cinda) in 1940. Flight Sergeant David Fenton died in Germany in 1942.
In 1948 Lee married Roger Slute and had four more children, Lorraine, Steven, Michael (Margy) and Harvey. She leaves ten grandchildren David, Anathea, Jeremy, Tyler, Eric, Kate, Scott, Kira, Leah and Tyler, and great granddaughters Savannah, Lauren, Julia, Ava and great grandson Luca. She will also be remembered by Sharon and Marilyn.
Lee enjoyed gardening, sewing and pattern drafting, wood working, photography and discussing Canadian politics and history. She was a World Federalist, believing strongly in making the world a better place for all. We celebrated her 100th birthday party at home in Ajax. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place. At a later date, she will be interred in the family plot at St. John’s, Norway in Toronto.
