Wai-Ching was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who sadly passed away after a significant heart attack. She did not pass away without a fight. Holding on with great perseverance, she waited for the return of all her cherished family members to bid her final farewell.
At the age of 98, she was a role model and inspiration to everyone who knew her. Born in Canton, Shung Tuck China in April 1926, she overcame the hardships of World War II, Japanese occupation, and extreme poverty. While struggling to keep her children alive and safe, she persevered to live a strong and happy life. Along with her husband Wai-Po Lee, they immigrated to Toronto, Canada in 1979 to join the rest of her family in the pursuit of a better life.
Wai-Ching was a caring and loving mother of six children. She spent her time living in each of the households of her children to help care for the grandchildren while the parents went to work. She was a dedicated grandmother who cleaned, did laundry and played with the grandchildren while her husband cooked up delicious entrees. They were a concerted team that allowed her children to feel at ease while they established their careers in the early days.
After becoming a widow, her filial son John dedicated himself to her care full time at their home. With the collaboration of her other two sons and 3 daughters: Dominic, Stephen, Joyce, Loretta, Rose and their respective families, they would take her out for meals, played Mahjong, gave her Cantonese Chinese Opera to watch and accompanied her enjoyable walks. She survived multiple hospital visits due to the utmost detailed care she received from John and support from the rest of the family.
She was someone who always brought on a smile and had positive outlook in life even in the face of hardships. Her radiating warmth was loved by four generations and kept everyone together. The regular large dinner gatherings were what everyone looked forward to. She loved having fun and often forgot her biological age. She joined her great grandchildren in laughing and doing funny gestures that made everyone happy. Her approach to life is greatly admired and will be profoundly missed.
