HEW LEE MOI

A BUDDHIST FAREWELL
My mother was a devout Buddhist. We visited the temple with her, and she prayed at home on a daily basis. We often saw and heard her with her prayer beads. On her offering table in her room, there was big picture of Buddha, a plate of fruits, and flowers. As such it is only appropriate that we bid her farewell with a Buddhist ceremony. The central feature of the ceremony will the chanting led by the monk. The chanting and the food calms the soul and helps with the difficult transition, and preparation for the next cycle of life. My mother will be cremated next week and her ashes placed in the beautiful jade urn.

Farewells are always sad. However, when we know a person is going to a beautiful place,
it makes saying good bye a lot easier. Life on earth does not last forever, but life beyond
this planet is ever lasting. May all of her loved ones always remember her and the great
love she had for them.
