In memory of

Laila Ozols-Maksins

September 22, 1955 -  July 9, 2022

Laila Ozols-Maksins passed away in her home on July 9th, 2022. She is remembered by her cousins, Andy (Inara) Timmermanis and Viesturs (Dace) Sefers. Laila was an aunt to Kathy (Bernard) and Vicky (Alex), and a great-aunt to Kayden. She is predeceased by her parents, Edite and Janis Ozols.

Laila grew up in the west end of Toronto. She lived with her parents, her cousin Andy and other extended family members in a home filled with music, culture and tradition. Laila and Andy’s childhood was characterized by laughter, caring and shenanigans.

Laila worked for many years in government service, where she was a dedicated and skilled contributor. Throughout her life, she enjoyed many interests and passions. Laila was an active member of the Latvian community and spent many summers camping and working at Sidrabene. She cultivated a beautiful backyard garden and created intricate knitting pieces. Laila was also a wonderful cook and enjoyed preparing elaborate family meals combining traditional recipes with modern cuisines. Laila cared deeply for young children and her pets. She put tremendous time and effort into thoughtful gifts for her nieces and, more recently, her great-nephew.

The family wishes to thank the staff at University Health Network (UHN) and Toronto Home Care Assistance for the care they provided to Laila. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 14th, at 1 PM at the York Funeral Centre (160 Beecroft Rd., North York). For those wishing to make a donation in memory of Laila, please consider UHN or a charity of your choice.
