In memory of

Angelo Koukoulis

November 15, 1928 -  June 15, 2025

Angelo was born in Kastanies, a small town in northern Greece. He was the third of six siblings—four brothers and two sisters—and the last to pass away at the remarkable age of 96.
His family were farmers, cultivating a variety of crops. At the tender age of 12, he faced the heartbreaking loss of his father to an unforeseen illness.

He married Eleni in 1957 and together they had three daughters—two born in Greece and one after their arrival in Canada.
At the age of 38, in June 1966, Angelo embarked on a new chapter, immigrating to Canada with his two young daughters, Bessie and Ann, and a pregnant wife. Their journey was by sea, sailing from Piraeus to the port of Halifax, as flying was financially out of reach. From there, they travelled by train to Toronto, where they would establish their new home. That September, their youngest daughter, Roula, was born.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Angelo did everything he could to support his family. He worked in a leather factory, where some of his relatives worked, and he remained there until his well-earned retirement.

Generosity was at the heart of who Angelo was. He loved blessing others, both financially and through his hospitality. Several of his grandchildren even lived with him while pursuing their education and married life.

One of his greatest joys was celebrating his birthdays—like an excited child, he would often ask his daughters where they had planned to celebrate the occasion.

Angelo thrived on social connections, and travel became one of his greatest passions. His adventures took him to Russia, Israel, Egypt, Spain, Portugal, and Italy. After his wife Eleni’s passing, he spent many summers in Greece with his sister. Cuba was another favorite winter retreat, where he would visit with family and friends—sometimes staying for an entire month.

Above all, Angelo cherished his family and took immense pride in their achievements. His greatest happiness came from being surrounded by his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was blessed with seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored.

During the last two and a half years of his life, Angelo lived at the Hellenic Home for the Aged in Scarborough, where he was lovingly cared for by the incredible staff. He would often greet his visitors with a warm and familiar phrase: "My door is open—you can come anytime!"

Angelo passed away on Father's Day—a fitting farewell for a man so devoted to his family. Surrounded by his three daughters, he peacefully departed to his new home in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers the family welcome donations to The Hellenic Home for the Aged, Scarborough. (Please see link below..)
