Kim was a remarkable woman, known for her kindness, strength, resilience and a sharp business mind. Born in Hoiping, China in 1927, she endured the hardships of the Japanese invasion of China and the Chinese Communist Revolution . She met and married her husband Eric in 1945 when she was 18 years old.
Their eldest child, Toy, was born in 1947, followed by Oy in 1950. In 1952, Kim, Toy and Oy fled China for Hong Kong, with Oy being not yet two years old at the time. Life in Hong Kong was challenging, with the extended family depending entirely on the financial support sent by Eric from Canada. They later applied for immigration to Canada from Hong Kong.
In 1951, Eric immigrated to Canada, followed by Kim, Toy, and Oy in 1959. Their arrival in Ottawa marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with happiness and opportunity. Nancy, Judy, Ron, and Linda were subsequently born in Ottawa. In 1956, Kim and Eric established and co-owned with her brother, a successful and well-known Chinese restaurant called the Marco Polo Tavern Restaurant. Kim initially worked in the restaurant but later devoted her time to raising her children as a dedicated mother and homemaker.
After Eric retired from the restaurant business in 1983, Kim and Eric moved to the Toronto area, where her children live and work today. Kim's legacy of love, strength, and resilience will forever be cherished by her family and all who knew her. May she rest in peace.
