In memory of

Kenneth (Ken) Maurice Massena

November 4, 1928 -  December 11, 2023

It is with deep sorrow and enduring love we wish to share the news of the passing of our amazing Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, on Monday, December 11, 2023. Ken passed away at the remarkable age of 95 with his daughters by his side.

Eternally dedicated to his wife Jean (nee Voss, passed in 2013), who was the love of his life from their first date. Ken was a devoted Dad to daughters Andrea (Mark), Michelle (Jeff) and Cheryl (Tom). Loved and always remembered by his grandchildren Sean (Val), Lee (Jessica), Kari (Pat), Sara (Eirann), Greg, Emily, and Caitlyn. Proud Great-Grandpa/Poppa to 10 (!) – Logan, Alison, Gracie, Cameron, Benjamen, Molly, Lucie, Lucas, Stella, and Franco. Dearly loved and favourite Uncle Ken to many nieces and nephews. Ken had a huge social circle for a man of 95 years, including treasured lifelong friends and their children, extended family, neighbours, baseball buddies, and new acquaintances. He enjoyed sharing a beer or two with his friends (his favourite being Molson Export in a bottle!). Ken always wanted to make connections with everyone he came across, loving the people in his life with sincere loyalty and appreciation.

Born to André and Hilda Massena, on November 4, 1928, Ken was the second youngest of 5 boys. Predeceased by brothers Bill (Mary), Bob (Jean), Gord (Lillian), and Tom and older sisters Aneti (Percy) and Emilie (Harold).

Ken was very proud to have been born and raised in the Main and Danforth community of Toronto. When he married Jean in 1965, they moved to Guildwood Village in Scarborough and raised their family in a neighbourhood that was dear to his heart from a young age. He put his heart and soul into his home and took great pride in maintaining it with the utmost care over the years. He was a man of many trades who was always wanting to help others and lend a hand. His toolbox was always by his side, or in the trunk of his beloved car, ready to fix anything and everything that needed his attention. He worked as a building inspector for the City of Toronto for many years and knew the city streets inside and out.

A huge lifelong fan of the Montreal Canadiens, the Brooklyn/L.A. Dodgers, and the Toronto Blue Jays, he wore his Canadiens attire proudly and accepted any compliments/jeers that came his way with a wink and a smile. Ken played many sports during his life, especially hockey and baseball. He was in the Scarborough Seniors Slo-Pitch Softball League for 22 years, playing until he was 87 years old! He was very proud of being named the oldest in the league for several years, often saying “age is just a number”. Ken was also a big admirer of Walt Disney and was happy to tell everyone that he and Mickey Mouse were the same age!

To celebrate Ken’s life and share stories, family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Pine Hills Cemetery, 625 Birchmount Rd., Toronto, ON.

Ken was my neighbour at Main & Danforth and was like a son to my dad, Wally Hobbs. He was a lovely person.
