In memory of

Kenneth Allen Joseph McMillen

October 23, 1954 -  April 4, 2018

Ken McMillen age 63, passed away peacefully due to stroke and renal failure on Wednesday April 4, 2018 at 11:58 p.m. at Scarborough General Hospital. He was born on October 23, 1954 at St. Michael’s Hospital, Toronto to Allen Henry (Harry) Douglas McMillen and Florence Georgette Vachon. He grew up in downtown Toronto where he lived most of his life, eventually moving to Scarborough and raising a family.

He worked various jobs from a very young age. He worked in Concessions at Maple Leaf Gardens, Boys Clubs of Canada with his friend Rick McCarthy, Club Coffee, CP Express, DCL and lastly for the Toronto Transit Commission. He began as an Operator driving Streetcars out of Russell Division. After a few years he moved on to operate Subway and LRT trains, buses out of Birchmount Division, Collectors, Supply and finally Revenue. He enjoyed interacting with the public, making his job fun by calling out the stops, making funny little jokes and brightened people's day with a smile and a few kind words. When his health started to fail he was forced to retire with 29 years of service. He received many accommodations and customer service awards. He loved bowling and played in many leagues. He also enjoyed playing golf and watching the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays play.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Audrey Sheila McMillen (Plaskett), whom he married November 16, 1978, daughter of Stanley and Anna Plaskett. He is also survived by his daughter Jenny Florence Ann McMillen, his son Jason Kenneth Allen McMillen, daughter-in-law Dawn-Marie Louise McMillen and granddaughter Caitlin Marie McMillen. He will be remembered by his siblings, Alicia, Laurie and Debra McMillen and brother-in-law Doug Pedersen. He is now at rest with his parents and his brother Gerrard who preceded him in death.

He cared deeply for his family, helping when and how he could no matter the circumstances. He took his roles as big brother, husband and father very seriously and watched out for all of us. He will be loved, remembered and missed dearly.

Special thanks to the Doctors and Nurses in the Home Hemo Dialysis Unit at Scarborough General, especially Kellie and Dr. Roscoe. Also to Janet Plaskett for her help and support.

Visitation from 1:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. A Catholic service at 2:00 pm followed by a private burial afterward on Thursday, 12th of April 2018 at York Cemetery in the York Funeral Centre.

Kenneth, I can remember all the kind and generous things you did from the time you met my big sister Audrey. The first Christmas you bought us all gifts, as a young teenager that meant so much. Thank you for all the kind things you have done for my girls Deanna, Samantha and Nikola. The generosity you showed them as a proud and loving Uncle you certainly had a big heart and worked so very hard for it all. You are Nikola's Godfather and you will be missed and remembered dearly.
I am at peace now to know you are not suffering anymore with your ailing health.
However, it is still with a very heavy heart as visiting the house won't ever be the same without you there. Love always Janet and girls

I will miss my brother. The talks we had on the phone. His handsome smile. He was very caring and took good care of me. He was always there for me, when I needed him. |He encouraged me to keep bees. When ever I see a bee, I will think of him.

Never remembered meeting him as I lived out in Saskatchewan all my childhood but I am sad my cousin has lost her father and someone so important to her.
