In memory of

Nicholas John Kennedy

April 29, 1928 -  March 14, 2017

Passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at The Woodhaven Nursing Home at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Margaret and step-father to Tracy and Jim Reid. Born on April 29, 1928 in Chelmsford, Ontario. Nicholas married Joanne Shersteniuk in Toronto and raised their five sons, Bruce, Don, Gord, Nick Jr. and Dave in their home on Strathmore Blvd. Proud member of the Sheet Metal Workers’ Union Local 30 for over 70 years. He was excellent with estimates and quotes and could build or fix almost anything. Nicholas was proud to have been a leader in the sheet metal industry, contributing to many major construction projects such as hospitals, automotive plants and nuclear power plants. He could rarely be seen sitting still except when he was in his fishing boat searching for the perfect catch. Nicholas enjoyed being active, traveling and being with his family who will remember him as an avid ballroom dancer, card player and hockey fan as well as a non-stop handyman around his own home and the homes of virtually everyone that he knew. His generosity, perseverance and tenacity were evident throughout his life, even in illness after a stroke in 2012. Nicholas was always working on something every day of his life and sharing whatever he could when he saw a need. Nicholas saw the wonder in the world, but he knew a better world does not just happen, you have to build it, a legacy which he now leaves for his grandchildren to carry on. Family and friends will be received at Pine Hills Cemetery and Funeral Centre (625 Birchmount Rd., north of St. Clair Ave. E., Scarborough, 416-267-8229) on Saturday, March 25, from 1-2 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m. Interment to follow. Memorial donations may be made to Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart & Stroke Foundation or Scout Canada.

We have very fond memories of Mr Kennedy. He would give us the keys to the cottage when our children were small and let us use it for the week. When we were there together he would take Alain and Philippe out fishing at night. They had a lot of fun. He was a generous and kind man who will be missed.

Our condolences - truly a great man and a sad loss. I have such tremendous and fond memories of him. One special memory is of our families heading off to fish the waters of the Bay of Quinte. "Uncle Nick" leading us to the best spots and us bobbing for hours - perhaps catching something and perhaps not. Thanks for those special memories.
