In memory of

簡民強 Kelvin Man Keung Kan

August 24, 1940 -  April 19, 2024

Kelvin passed away peacefully on Friday April 19, 2024. He was a devoted husband to Shirley, his beloved wife for over 57 years; whom he met during his stay at Chedoke Hospital in Hamilton, Ontario. He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his daughters Karen (Eric), Sharon and Sandra, honorary children Sadia and Christoph, as well as many relatives and friends.

Kelvin developed long-standing friendships through his Hong Kong schooling at Diocesan Boys’ School (DBS), his presence at St John’s Anglican Church, and his financial career at Royal Trust.

Our home was always welcoming to relatives who arrived new to Canada. In recent years, our parent’s goodwill was paid back tenfold through visits, errands and “tech support”.

Kelvin enjoyed travelling with his various groups of friends and appreciated the many opportunities to try different cuisines. After his retirement, he even taught himself some simple baking; with Toblerone cookies being a specialty.

A special thank you to the ICU medical staff at Markham Stouffville Hospital and our close family friend Dr. Winnie Leung for their compassionate support during his final days. We thank the staff and our sitters (Patty, Lynn, Maggie, and Sunny) for their kindness while he was living in Mon Sheong Private Care.

Family and friends will be received at York Cemetery and Funeral Centre (160 Beecroft Rd.) on Monday April 29, 2024 from 9:30 am to 10:30 am; with a service to begin at 10:30am and burial to follow.

Lunch will be hosted afterwards at Legend Chinese Restaurant (5 Glen Cameron Rd.)

Family and friends are welcome to send flowers or in lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Canadian Hearing Services, Markham Stouffville Hospital Foundation or St. John’s Anglican Church.

We met Kelvin and the rest of the Khan family when our son married Karen. We were always welcome at celebrations as were many family and friends. Kelvin was a gracious host with a quiet sense of humour.
Our thoughts are with Shirley and the family - both related and adopted.
