In memory of

Justina Kwok Yue Tong

December 28, 1951 -  October 18, 2016

With her family by her side, after a courageous 22-month battle with cancer, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Justina Kwok Yue Tong at home in Markham, Ontario on Tuesday, October 18 in her 65th year. Justina is the devoted and cherished wife of 39 years to Frank Tong, beloved and irreplaceable mother of Tracey (Kyle) and Murray (Catherine) and adored grandmother of Henry Edward, Millicent Justina and Evelyn Elisabeth. She will be greatly missed by the Lam and Tong families.

The fifth of seven children, the family lived in Macau and Hong Kong. A graduate of Hong Kong Baptist University, Justina moved to Canada to attend Queen’s University in Kingston in 1974. She graduated with a degree in Education.

She was a highly respected teacher for the Halton District School Board for more than 20 years before her retirement in 2014. Her passion was teaching and she was often remembered as a favourite and inspiring educator who would receive visits from her former students years later.

A trained pianist, Justina was also a talented seamstress, knitter and a lover of Classical- and Romantic-era music. She was an avid reader, enjoyed a healthy lifestyle and in more recent years, annual trips to see her family in Hong Kong.

The visitation, service, witnessing cremation and reception will be held at the Elgin Mills Funeral Centre at 1591 Elgin Mills Road East in Richmond Hill, Ontario on Monday, October 24, with the visitation beginning at 1:30 p.m. and the Service beginning at 2:30 p.m. She will be laid to rest at the Mausoleum of the Heavens in Richmond Hill. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre in Toronto will be appreciated by the family.

I am so saddened by Justina's passing. I worked with her for a few years. She was always cheerful and had a great sense of humour. She often talked about her family and was so proud of her two 'children'. We enjoyed going out for dinner occasionally after a hard day at work. I will never forget my good friend! Justina, rest in peace.
Love, Audrey

I will always remember Justina as a kind, sweet, and talented lady with a ready smile. She was a joy to be with and so thoughtful: gifting me her knitted scarves and baby outfits. Justina was a treasure and I will have many fond memories of her friendship. I wish her family peace and good memories.
