About “June-Bug”
In 1954, June Cummins married "Jim Kerr", her high school sweet heart and the love of her life. June and Jim were married for 63 years until Jim passed October 2, 2017. As a point of interest, June and Jim were married on the actual day of Hurricane Hazel"October 18, 1954. June who was of course the most organized person on the planet, was well equipped to handle a little hiccup, like a hurricane on her wedding day. She managed it with grace and charm even when many of the guests could not make it over the Humber River Bridge to the reception at "The Old Mill". They were married at Kew Beach United Church.
June has three daughters: Kathryn Karen and Laura as well as seven grandchildren: James, Darryl, Emily, Bryan, Hollie, Amy and William. June cherished each grandchild and was very involved in each of their lives both collectively and individually. June adored her son-in laws John and Derrick.
June was alway prepared to be the unsung hero when it came to supporting her family. A perfect example was the sacrifice she made assisting Jim fulfil his dream of becoming a dentist. She understood that it was his calling and supported his decision to go back to school as a mature student (30 years old) with two children age 5 and 3. It was a huge risk, with a no fail option, but June looked after absolutely everything so it could happen. Jim became a dentist and acknowledged on many occasions that he owed it all to her.
They raised their 3 daughters in Scarborough and Agincourt on Stansbury Cres and Donalda Cres. Their cottage on Rankin Lake provided decades of fun with family and friends. In retirement they enjoyed their spot in MLE Port Charlotte, Florida enjoying golf and tennis along with Jim's twin John and his wife Madge, all of who are now enjoying a round of golf in heaven. Willard Kerr, June's brother lost his beloved wife Margaret in 2019.
June loved her nieces and nephews: Lynda, John, Bill, and Scott. June had many close friends at Swan Lake, Maple Leaf FLA, and Rankin Lake.
She was a volunteer at Scarborough Support for the Elderly in the congregate dining program and a member of Bridlewood Squash club. She had an sophisticated talent for many types of crafts that included Bunka (Japanese Needlepoint, Needlepoint, Sewing (countless halloween and dance costumes), Painting, and Ceramics.
She was famous for her roast beef dinners and those potatoes around the roast. It would be nothing for her to host a dinner party with 15 people at home, at the cottage or in Florida. She was known for her dinner parties.
June made the world a better place with her enormous capacity to be kind and compassionate. She is a role model for us all. She never bragged or patted herself on the back. She didn't have to, everyone could see that she was a brilliant star. She had a wonderful disposition and was full of love and grace. We all miss you June!
